¡Viva Mariachi! at 鶹ӳ offers a unique opportunity for our community to learn how these programs are thriving throughout the U.S because of their effective role in student success, all while enriching the cultural vitality and musical traditions of their institutions and surrounding communities.
This cultural event promotes the rich heritage and traditions of Mexico through Mariachi music and music education. The Viva Mariachi Festival is once again hosting youth/student groups representing three levels of our nation’s public institutions: middle school, high school, and college.

NVC's generous donors and sponsors allow us to keep ticket prices low, reimburse performers for travel, and cover operational costs of the event. They are also assisting us with developing local mariachi music education programs for all ages.
The festival connects our community to higher education and offers an opportunity to see firsthand how mariachi programs are thriving in the U.S and how they serve to enhance students’ academic performance.

Mariachi Las Aguilitas de Davis Bilingual Elementary School in Tucson, Arizona, is a performing mariachi that was founded by Dr. Alfredo Valenzuela over 35 years ago, Mariachi Las Aguilitas is now under the direction of his son, Jaime Valenzuela. Mariachi Las Aguilitas de Davis has thrived and succeeded in keeping the mariachi culture and tradition alive. Las Aguilitas de Davis has received nation wide recognition through various performances and showcases and is also known as the “Pride of Tucson”.
Mariachi Las Aguilitas currently has 63 performing members. Members of Mariachi Las Aguilitas feed the middle schools and high schools once students reach middle/high school. Many alumni students have gone beyond and have started their own mariachi groups throughout the community of Tucson.
Mariachi Las Aguilitas was featured on Good Morning America in 2023 featuring the 4 generations of Valenzuela’s.

LBC Mariachi Cantares de Mi Tierra and Ballet Folklórico are part of our 150-student program, offered completely free of charge to all participants. The Luther Burbank Center for the Arts (LBC) provides three levels of mariachi instruction, including Mariachi Rosas—Northern California’s first all-female mariachi ensemble—as well as two levels of folklórico dance.
Mariachi Cantares de Mi Tierra recently earned , making history as the first mariachi group from Sonoma County to place in a statewide competition. In January, they will have the honor of opening for Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán for the second time.
The core mission of our program is to foster community engagement through education, performance opportunities, and increased access to the arts.
This ensemble is under the direction of Matthew Isais Bowker, Music Specialist.

Mariachi Garibaldi is from Southwestern College in Chula Vista, California has performed in countless concerts around the country and internationally. They have been feature in both American and Mexican national news broadcasts, including a prominent role in the documentaty "In the Name of Mariachi Music," which details the impact the US is having on the history and the future of mariachi.
Mariachi Garibaldi is comprised of 17 college-aged student musicians. Dr. Jeff Nevin is the director/maestro for this ensemble.
Dr. Nevin played a major role in launching 鶹ӳ annual Viva Mariachi Festival in 2019. His deep knowledge of mariachi music, both as a professor and a musician inspired NVC to start this festival at NVC.
